How It Works
Upload your file
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, MP3, WAV, or M4A up to 2GB. Drag and drop or click to browse. The audio track is transcribed for both video and audio files.
Transcribe
The spoken language is detected automatically, or pick it from the dropdown before uploading. A hybrid engine, NVIDIA Parakeet-TDT 0.6B v3 for English and major European languages and Whisper small for other languages, converts the audio to text with timestamps.
Download the transcript and subtitles
Preview the transcript in your browser, then download your subtitles as .srt or .vtt, or the plain-text transcript as .txt. Want the captions burned into the video instead of a separate file? Use Add Subtitles.
SRT vs VTT: which subtitle file do you need?
SRT (SubRip) is the most widely supported subtitle format. Use it for YouTube, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut, and most social platforms. It is plain text with numbered cues and start and end timestamps. VTT (WebVTT) is the web-native caption format used by HTML5 video players and any platform that requires WebVTT, and it supports styling and positioning cues that SRT does not.
If you are uploading to YouTube or editing in a desktop editor, choose SRT. If you are adding captions to a website or HTML5 player, choose VTT. VidClean gives you both from a single upload, so you do not have to decide up front.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about generating subtitles with VidClean.
Is the subtitle generator free? expand_more
Yes. The subtitle generator is completely free, with no account, no watermark, and no monthly cap. Download as many .srt and .vtt files as you want. Uploaded files are deleted 15 minutes after processing.
Is there a watermark on the SRT file? expand_more
No. There is no watermark on the subtitle file and none on your video. The .srt and .vtt downloads are clean plain-text files. Unlike Kapwing, which limits free subtitles to 10 minutes, and VEED, which watermarks free exports, VidClean adds nothing.
What is the length limit? expand_more
You can generate subtitles for files up to 90 minutes free, or up to 3 hours with Pro, and up to 2GB in size. There is no 10-minute free cap like Kapwing's.
What is the difference between SRT and VTT? expand_more
SRT (SubRip) is the most widely supported format, used by YouTube, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and most social platforms. VTT (WebVTT) is the web-native format used by HTML5 video players. VidClean gives you both from one upload, so you can use whichever your platform needs.
How do I add the SRT file to my video? expand_more
Upload the .srt to YouTube in the subtitles section, or import it into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut. To burn the captions directly into the video instead of using a separate file, use VidClean's Add Subtitles tool.
Can I edit the subtitles after generating them? expand_more
Yes. The .srt and .vtt files are plain text, so you can open them in any text editor to fix wording or adjust timestamps before using them.
