What it does
Yap is voice dictation for Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and later, no Intel build) and Windows. Hold a shortcut, speak, and let go: it turns speech into clean, punctuated text and types it into the app you are using, so scripts, show notes, descriptions and emails get written by voice. Speech recognition runs on your computer, so recordings are never uploaded. Works offline for up to 24 hours between access checks, detects 25 languages automatically (on a Mac, macOS 14 or later), and keeps a searchable local history. The Windows installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows may show a protection warning on install. Free for 3 days with no account, then a 10-day trial, then USD 6.90/month.
